On the 4th and 5th of August 2012, I joined Famine 30 hours. I went to Bukit Rimau's DIY camp (SABS) and yea, I've fasted for 30 hours. IT'S THIRTY HOURS. I was so amazed, I couldn't imagine that before I started fasting. I did feel hungry at some times, but, there were lots of activities to do, so they kept me distracted from hunger and food.
At first, I joined this camp because Lee Hom is coming for the countdown. But through the activities, I feel like helping those children that live in poverty, sufferring from hunger. Compared to them, we are way more lucky and yet, we don't appreciate what we have. We complain about how awful the food is; we complain how little the food people gave; we complain how ugly the appearance of the food is. But on the other side of the world, places like East Timor, Laos, Vietnam, thousands or even millions of people are devastating, the lifes they lead are way more suffocating than we thought. *guilty*
One of the activities I like is the one where we had to act out a short play on how to save Lily, a 7 year old girl who lives in East Timor. We were given different materials and we had to think of ideas and ways to make her life better. My group got 2 sunflower seeds (gua zi). While watching other groups playing their dramas, I felt so happy because Lily got people's attentions and she can be saved! And that smile on Lily's face on the recent picture she took, it's full of happiness that can't be explained through words.
I would like to join Famine 30 Hours again next year. It's a meaningful event and little donations can make a big difference to those who live in poverty.
Actually, I want to join the study tour, where you have the chance to go to these countries and meet these children in need. =)
okay, pictures time.
